Those who are serving periods of incarceration between 60 days to a maximum of two years less a day may be housed in a correctional centre. Offenders in a correctional facility are eligible for education, counseling and work experience programs.
In comparison to jails, detention centres are often more modern, larger facilities that are built to accommodate the needs of surrounding regions. Detention centres hold offenders that are sentenced to shorter terms of imprisonment. They house persons who are awaiting trial, sentencing and various other proceedings. Both types of facilities are maximum security.
